A Flash of Contrast
In motorsport, a race is often decided in the narrowest of margins — a fraction of a second separating glory from near-miss. It is precisely this idea that drives the new TIME TO RACE FLASH from Les Ateliers Louis Moinet. The name is not incidental. “FLASH is the lightning stroke of a start, the impulse and perfect timing that turns a race on its head,” says Nathanaël Schaller, Creative Product Manager. The piece distils that instant into something you can wear on the wrist.
The defining visual move is the pairing of matt graphite with a warm golden tone drawn from the gear trains of historic Grand Prix watches. Two triangular spaces in matt graphite anchor the dial and structure the composition, while the golden hue spreads across the tachymeter scale’s first quarter, the metal flange, two visible screws, the hour and minute hands, and the central seconds hand. The effect is both assertive and precise — mechanical confidence made chromatic.
Dial Architecture
The off-centre black dial makes its intentions clear immediately: the Lucky Number sits in bold white at its heart, with the entire chronograph architecture radiating outward from it. Smoked sapphire counters introduce depth and contrast, while the woven carbon fibre plate references the advanced engineering culture of contemporary motorsport. The flange — a dual-scale tachymeter and 60-second ring — draws its circular design directly from the cylinder bores of racecar engines. Every element earns its place.
Above the dial, a sapphire dome delivers a panoramic view of the column-wheel mechanism at work — a technical detail that rewards the attentive observer. The crown guard and openworked, curved, satin-finished lugs give the 40.7mm case taut, aerodynamic lines consistent with the brief. Water resistance is rated to 50 metres. The rubber strap with a triple-folding steel clasp in black PVD and curved fleur-de-lys closes the package with equal rigour.
Calibre LM96: The Mechanical Argument
Every press of the monopusher on the TIME TO RACE FLASH sets a remarkable choreography in motion. Rocker, clutch, hammers, column wheel, springs and gears engage in fluid sequence, activating the chronograph and beginning the measurement of time. The calibre LM96 required 147 components for the upper chronograph section and 164 for the lower automatic section — 311 parts in total, oscillating at 28,800 vibrations per hour and delivering a 48-hour power reserve. The movement carries 30 jewels.
On the caseback side, the openworked oscillating weight in matt black stands in deliberate contrast to the rhodium-plated components behind it — a visual dialogue that mirrors the dial’s own interplay of tones. Collectors familiar with the brand’s 1816 Tourbillon Chronograph will recognise Louis Moinet‘s discipline in turning a movement into an architectural composition rather than a concealed mechanism.

The Lucky Number and Edition Structure
The Lucky Number concept is central to the TIME TO RACE identity. Every piece carries a unique number chosen by its owner — a personal talisman that the house assigns once, and once only, within each edition. With the FLASH, this rule applies independently to the grade 5 titanium edition and the 18ct red gold edition, meaning a collector can secure a specific number in both materials if they choose, each retaining its singular status. It is a considered piece of personalisation that elevates the purchase into something closer to a commission.
Why It Matters for GCC Collectors
The Gulf’s most discerning watch collectors have long appreciated the intersection of mechanical precision and design boldness — qualities that define the TIME TO RACE FLASH without compromise. The choice between grade 5 titanium and 18ct red gold speaks directly to a region where material prestige carries weight, and the Lucky Number concept aligns naturally with a culture in which personal numbers carry deep significance. For those already acquainted with Louis Moinet’s adventurous approach — seen in pieces such as the SKYDANCE — the FLASH represents a sharper, more motorsport-focused expression of the same creative conviction.
