Soccer reimagined in haute horlogerie
The RM 41-01 Tourbillon Soccer turns Richard Mille’s interest in the sport into a focused instrument built to follow a game from kick-off through extra time while logging every goal directly on the dial. It builds on the soccer timing of the RM 11-01 and RM 11-04 Roberto Mancini, but is conceived specifically around the structure of a single match.
Richard Mille and Audemars Piguet Le Locle created a patented tourbillon flyback chronograph calibre over five years, configured around soccer indications. It combines a tourbillon escapement, 70-hour power reserve and function indicator with a flyback chronograph whose central minutes and seconds hands overlap for fast, intuitive reading.

Match phases and mechanical scorekeeping
The match-phase indicator at 9 o’clock advances with each reset of the flyback chronograph, moving from first half to second half and through the two periods of overtime to give a mechanical record of the game. At 4 o’clock, the function indicator uses three titanium plates over a lacquered background to show winding, neutral or hand-setting positions at a glance.
Microblasted grade 5 titanium plates and bridges are extensively skeletonised to accommodate some 650 internal components, including twin column wheels governing the flyback chronograph. Titanium flanges frame the mechanical goal counters, operated by the pushers at 2 and 4 o’clock, while dedicated gear trains advance hands along metallic rails to display the scores of the home and visiting teams, counting up to nine goals before an automatic return to zero.

The assembly, approaching 800 components, has passed Richard Mille’s internal test regime, including 120 shock-resistance protocols and an ultimate trial at 5,000 g’s, underlining that the RM 41-01 is engineered for real sporting conditions as well as display.

Extreme architecture and case materials
Skeletonisation drives the architecture, with bridges, gears and levers pared back to lower mass and reveal the structure. Microblasted titanium surfaces, complex geometries and PVD coatings sharpen contrast, while engraved details on the baseplate are emphasised by hand-applied white lacquer.
The minute-counter bridge combines rounded forms with sharp lines, polished chamfers and straight-grained planes. A 5N PVD-treated titanium bridge secures the fast-rotating barrel shaped to recall the hexagonal patterning of a soccer ball, reinforcing the link to the pitch.
The tonneau case, made of 105 parts, introduces Basalt TPT® developed with North Thin Ply Technology (NTPT™) and derived from volcanic rock. One version uses Red Carmin Basalt TPT®, the other dark blue Quartz TPT®; both are paired with Carbon TPT® casebands, selected for mechanical performance, chemical and corrosion resistance, thermal stability and UV robustness.
Basalt TPT® also offers a distinctive visual language. Its 40-micron basalt fibres, rotated 45° between layers, create a pronounced, wood-like grain that can be expressed in saturated tones, while titanium pushers with Carbon TPT® or Basalt TPT® inserts and 5N gold guards sit in direct dialogue with the patented double-column-wheel flyback construction beneath.
