A. Lange & Söhne at Hampton Court: TRIPLE SPLIT and 1815 UP/DOWN Debut

A. Lange & Söhne unveiled a platinum TRIPLE SPLIT and two 1815 UP/DOWN editions at the 2026 Concours of Elegance, Hampton Court Palace.

What Makes It Special

• Limited to 100 pieces, the TRIPLE SPLIT in 950 platinum with a silver-coloured dial is the centrepiece of A. Lange & Söhne’s September 2026 presentation — a split-seconds chronograph with flyback function capable of measuring comparative times across twelve hours, in a case material reserved for the manufacture’s most significant releases.
• Two 1815 UP/DOWN editions in 750 pink gold and 750 white gold, each limited to 300 pieces, also received their public debut at Hampton Court.
• A three-metre-tall DATOGRAPH model and a live engraving demonstration by a Lange finisher gave visitors rare access to the craft behind each watch.
• CEO Wilhelm Schmid presented the ‘Best of Show’ award to a 1928 Mercedes-Benz SSK Roadster, underscoring the shared values of mechanical preservation that define the partnership.

Design and Mechanics

Platinum arrived as the defining material of the TRIPLE SPLIT’s newest iteration. First introduced in 2018, the complication remains without a direct rival in its ability to capture intermediate and comparative split times up to twelve hours. The flyback mechanism and the case in 950 platinum place this edition among the most technically and materially serious references in the current Lange catalogue. For collectors in the Gulf, where platinum Lange references circulate at a strong premium, 100 pieces is a meaningful constraint.

The 1815 UP/DOWN draws its proportions and aesthetic from historic Lange pocket watches. Its power-reserve display, arranged to read like a fuel gauge, gives the wearer an immediate and legible indication of remaining mainspring tension. The pink and white gold variants each carry a 300-piece limit, broadening the series while preserving its scarcity.

The Exhibition Context

The Concours of Elegance at Hampton Court Palace ran from 4 to 6 September 2026, with approximately 60 classic cars displayed across the palace grounds. A. Lange & Söhne has been a Presenting Partner since 2018, making this the eighth consecutive edition of the partnership.

A live engraving demonstration by a Lange finisher drew considerable attention. The floral motifs cut into each balance cock are one of the details that make every Lange watch individually distinct — visible only under magnification, yet present in every piece that leaves Glashütte. “No car is meant to just sit in the garage,” said CEO Wilhelm Schmid. “The same is true of our watches: their special allure only becomes apparent when you hold them in your hands and hear their gentle ticking.”

Heritage and Lineage

Since the DATOGRAPH’s debut in 1999, Lange has produced 13 chronograph references, each fitted with a bespoke manufacture calibre. The Glashütte manufacture has produced 77 in-house calibres since its 1990 relaunch, all elaborately finished and assembled by hand. That figure anchors the TRIPLE SPLIT’s technical credentials — and explains why limited platinum editions attract sustained secondary-market interest among Gulf collectors who follow Patek Philippe and Lange with equal attention.
