A Heritage Icon Reimagined
The Commander Datoday joins one of MIDO’s most enduring families, produced without interruption since 1959. The original Commander was known for its round case, wide dial opening and discreet crown framed by a slim bezel, and this Datoday preserves those signatures while sharpening them for a contemporary urban wrist.
The 40 mm stainless-steel case with rose-gold PVD treatment combines polished and satin-brushed surfaces, a slim profile and a glassbox sapphire crystal with double-sided anti-reflective coating to keep the dial clear and open. Updated indexes, a stepped flange around the dial edge and a modern three-link bracelet echo the historic Commander language while ensuring easy wear from tailored looks to everyday attire.
Refined Dial with Architectural Detail
The deep sunray-brushed green dial plays with the light, while the radial texture contrasts with the stepped flange that structures the periphery. This flange carries a precise minute track and quarter-second scale for clear reading.
Applied indexes are polished and faceted, black-lacquered at the centre and tipped with white Super-LumiNova®, matching the flat, diamond-cut baton hands. The hour and minute hands share this mix of black lacquer and Super-LumiNova®, creating strong contrast against the green background and ensuring legibility after dark.
The Datoday name refers to the calendar display at 3 o’clock, where a black day and date aperture is integrated into the layout. Super-LumiNova® on the hands and indexes keeps the display readable across changing light conditions.

Case, Bracelet and Everyday Versatility
The Commander Datoday uses a 40 mm diameter and 43.83 mm lug-to-lug length for balanced wrist presence. Its three-part stainless-steel case with rose-gold PVD treatment, combining polished and satin finishes, is paired with a screw-down case back and 5 bar (50 m/165 ft) water resistance suited to daily wear.
The rose-gold PVD bracelet blends satin-brushed surfaces with polished centre links, underlining the watch’s metropolitan character, while a redesigned profile focuses on flexibility and comfort. Integration between case and bracelet follows the original Commander philosophy, and a folding clasp with push-buttons, engraved with the MIDO COMMANDER logo, secures the watch on the wrist; quick-change lug bars add practical strap versatility.
Caliber 80: A Contemporary Mechanical Heart
Behind the transparent case back, the MIDO automatic Caliber 80, based on the ETA C07.621, powers the Commander Datoday. The oscillating weight is decorated with Geneva stripes and the MIDO logo, and the movement is adjusted in three positions, runs at 21,600 vibrations per hour and offers a power reserve of up to 80 hours.
A Nivachron™ balance spring, resistant to shocks and magnetic fields, supports long-term precision and reliability, helping the watch remain ready even after several days off the wrist. The movement displays hours, minutes, seconds, day and date in a clean layout that reflects MIDO’s focus on considered Swiss mechanical watchmaking.

Why It Matters
For discerning collectors in the GCC, the Commander Datoday brings together a longstanding design heritage, a distinctive rose-gold PVD and green aesthetic, and the practicality of an 80-hour automatic movement. Its considered proportions and legible dial allow the watch to move confidently between formal occasions and relaxed, urban settings.
