LOUIS ERARD

Louis Erard was founded in 1929 by Louis Erard and André Perret in La Chaux-de-Fonds, and today operates from Le Noirmont in the Swiss Jura, occupying a position few brands hold: mechanical watches with genuine design credibility at accessible prices. Its identity is built on the régulateur — the separated-hours display once used by workshop reference clocks — and on an unusually generous programme of collaborations.

The Régulateur as a Signature

By making the regulator layout its house display rather than an occasional exercise, Louis Erard turned a technical curiosity into a recognisable face. The execution is deliberately restrained: clean dials, Swiss automatic movements, and cases sized for daily wear. It gave the brand a distinct identity in a segment where most competitors reproduce the same three-hand template.

Collaboration as a Method

Louis Erard has released joint editions with Alain Silberstein, Vianney Halter and Konstantin Chaykin among others, alongside design studios and specialist retailers. The partners are given real latitude rather than a choice of colour. The programme has introduced independent watchmaking’s design language to buyers who could not otherwise reach it, and has become the brand’s defining editorial strategy.
