Grönefeld's 1941 Quadrivium combines a remontoire, flying tourbillon, jumping seconds and power reserve in 40 mm. Limited to 28 pieces each in Tantalum and Platinum.
First Look
- Where previous Grönefeld references focused on a single complication, the 1941 Quadrivium stacks four — a 7.5-second remontoire, a one-minute flying tourbillon, central jumping seconds and a 50-hour power-reserve indicator — within a 40.0 mm, 11.3 mm-tall case, marking the most technically ambitious release in the brothers’ independent career.
- Two editions of 28 pieces each: Tantalum (€280,000 excl. taxes) and Platinum (€310,000 excl. taxes); Tantalum deliveries begin in 2027.
- The movement counts 473 components and is driven by concentric twin barrels connected in series.
- Five dial colour options will be announced via Grönefeld’s website after launch.
Design & Mechanics

Grönefeld introduced the 1941 case design in 2016, and it now runs across the Remontoire, Principia, Decennium and Grönograaf. The Quadrivium inherits those proportions: 40.0 mm across, 11.3 mm deep. Compact for what it contains.
The dial pairs a frosted main surface with hand-bevelled stainless steel elements and polished, multi-faceted white gold hour markers. Blued steel hands complete the layout. Five base dial colours are forthcoming from the brand.
Movement & Materials
Each complication occupies a dedicated position: flying tourbillon at 6 o’clock, the exposed remontoire governor at 9 o’clock (rotating once every 7.5 seconds), central jumping seconds and the power-reserve arc at 10 o’clock. Hours and minutes sit at 2 o’clock.

The concentric twin barrels connected in series supply the sustained energy this architecture demands. Through the sapphire exhibition case back, the finishing — polishing, anglage, surface contrast — is as considered as the front. For Bart and Tim Grönefeld, the calibre is visual content, not just engineering.
The Tantalum Première Edition pairs the grey-blue density of that refractory metal with the 1941 case profile. Platinum brings additional weight and optical depth at €30,000 above the Tantalum price point. Both editions are limited to 28 pieces, placing the Quadrivium firmly within the Fondation Haute Horlogerie tier of independent high complication.
Heritage & Lineage
Those who have seen the Quadrivium in person have taken to calling it “Grönefeld’s Greatest Hits.” The reference is apt: the remontoire concept ran through the celebrated One Hertz and the Remontoire; the tourbillon through the Parallax Tourbillon. Both are now discontinued. The Quadrivium does not revive them — it constructs an entirely new movement that draws on the mechanical logic underpinning each.

The name Quadrivium derives from classical scholarship’s four foundational disciplines. For the Grönefeld brothers, working from Oldenzaal in the Netherlands, the word frames an argument: that four discrete mechanical ideas, developed separately over years, can form a coherent and unified whole.
Availability & Edition Details
Tantalum Première Edition deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2027, priced at €280,000 excluding taxes. The Platinum edition, at €310,000 excluding taxes, follows the same 28-piece limit.
Dial colour options across both editions will be published on Grönefeld’s official website in the weeks following this announcement. Collectors wishing to secure a position are advised to contact the manufacture directly.
