VANGUART
Vanguart was created in 2017 by four young Swiss professionals — a designer, a movement constructor, a manager and a chairman — who spent several years developing a tourbillon of their own before showing anything. The brand launched publicly in 2021 with the Black Hole Tourbillon, a watch whose architecture had begun as a concept design circulated online. Its ambition was disproportionate to its age from the outset.
The Black Hole Tourbillon
The Black Hole places a flying tourbillon at the centre of a case built from curved sapphire and titanium, with an aesthetic drawn from science fiction rather than horological precedent. The movement was designed and produced by the founders rather than bought in. It arrived at a price level normally reserved for houses with decades behind them, and was received seriously.
A Studio-Led Independent
Vanguart’s founding team combines experience from high-complication workshops with a design practice that treats the watch as a sculptural object. Production is measured in a handful of pieces, and each project is developed as a complete concept rather than a variation. The brand is among the clearest examples of a new Swiss generation building complications without an inherited manufacture.
