Thirty Patek Philippe watches, each kept by the client who first bought it, go to auction at Sotheby’s New York on 7 December 2026, where the collection is expected to exceed $9 million.
Key Highlights
- Sotheby’s offers The Original Owner Collection, thirty watches kept by their first owner, at its Important Watches auction in New York on 7 December 2026.
- Two Patek Philippe grand complications make their auction debut: the Reference 5374/300P-001, estimated at $2.5–5 million, and the Reference 5260/355R-001, estimated at $1.4–2.8 million.
- Most of the other pieces were retailed by Tiffany & Co., Patek Philippe’s first official retail partner in the United States since 1851.
- The nine highlights published by Sotheby’s carry combined estimates of $6.95–13.5 million, before the buyer’s premium.
One Owner, Thirty Watches
Sotheby’s announced the sale on 20 October 2026: thirty watches, nearly all retained by their original owner since purchase, will form a centrepiece of the Important Watches auction in New York on 7 December. The house expects the group to achieve in excess of $9 million. WatchPro, which reported the sale on 22 October, notes that the consignor’s name remains private and frames the group as a $10 million collection that a buyer could assemble in a single day.
The appeal lies in provenance. Each watch has stayed with one person from the moment it left the retailer, a continuity that auction catalogues rarely record across an entire collection. Sotheby’s dates most of the highlights to 2024, 2025 and 2026, which turns the sale into a portrait of contemporary Patek Philippe collecting.
“Collecting is about preserving stories as much as it is preserving objects.”

Two Auction Debuts at the Head of the Sale
Unveiled at Watches and Wonders in 2022, the Reference 5374/300P-001 is the high-jewellery interpretation of one of Patek Philippe’s celebrated grand complications: a minute repeater and perpetual calendar with moon phases, leap year and 24-hour indication, here in platinum set with baguette-cut diamonds and sapphires. Dated circa 2026, it leads the sale with an estimate of $2.5–5 million.
In 2023, Patek Philippe introduced the first minute repeater in the Aquanaut collection with References 5260/1455R and 5260/355R. The example offered, in pink gold and dated circa 2024, is set with 52 multi-coloured baguette-cut sapphires, 112 baguette-cut diamonds and 160 brilliant-cut diamonds, with a double row of stones on the bezel in invisible setting. Its self-winding Caliber R 27 strikes the hours, quarters and minutes on two gongs, and the estimate stands at $1.4–2.8 million. The rainbow palette runs across the Aquanaut Luce family, as our study of the Aquanaut Luce Rainbow Chronograph 7968/300R-001 shows.
The third grand complication is the Reference 5208R-001, presented in pink gold at Baselworld in 2018 after the platinum original of 2011. Its Caliber R CH 27 PS QI combines a minute repeater, a column-wheel mono-pusher chronograph and an instantaneous perpetual calendar, estimated at $900,000–1.8 million.
A Partnership Dating to 1851
Tiffany & Co. became Patek Philippe’s first official retail partner in the United States in 1851, and more than 170 years later the alliance forms a collecting field of its own: watches retailed by the New York jeweller, and rarer pieces with both names on the dial. Most of The Original Owner Collection comes from this source, including double-signed references appearing at auction for the first time.
The best known is the Nautilus Reference 5711/1A-018, made in 2022 in 170 pieces to mark the 170th anniversary of the partnership, with a dial in Tiffany Blue. Its estimate is $1–1.6 million.
Three further pieces carry Tiffany & Co. signatures that Sotheby’s describes as auction firsts. The Aquanaut Travel Time 5164G-001, circa 2024 and estimated at $150,000–300,000, belongs to Reference 5164, the first Aquanaut with Patek Philippe’s Travel Time dual time zone. The Cubitus 5821/1AR-001 in pink gold and steel, circa 2025 and estimated at $150,000–300,000, belongs to the first entirely new collection since the Twenty~4 of 1999. The Aquanaut Luce 5261R-001, circa 2025 and estimated at $200,000–400,000, pairs a 39.9 mm case with Caliber 26-330 S QA LU and is the first complicated Aquanaut with a plain bezel.
Two further Nautilus references complete the Tiffany group among the highlights. The 7118/1451G-001 in white gold, circa 2026 and estimated at $400,000–800,000, is snow-set with 1,500 diamonds and 876 sapphires. The flyback chronograph 5980/1R-001 in pink gold, circa 2024 and estimated at $250,000–500,000, belongs according to Sotheby’s to the final generation of production before the reference left the catalogue in 2024, with the micro-adjustable bracelet.
Reading the Estimates
Added together, the nine highlights published by Sotheby’s carry estimates of $6.95 million to $13.5 million. Twenty-one further watches complete the collection, whose total Sotheby’s expects to exceed $9 million. The estimates are expressed before the buyer’s premium; prices achieved will include the hammer price, the buyer’s premium and the overhead premium.
The three grand complications account for $4.8 million of the combined low estimate, close to 70 per cent. The Tiffany-signed sports and travel references sit between $150,000 and $1.6 million, so the sale reads as two collections in one: haute horlogerie at the summit, and a record of the Tiffany relationship across the Aquanaut, Nautilus and Cubitus lines. The season holds further Patek Philippe moments, as a 1954 Patek Philippe heads FutureGrail’s November live auction.
What It Means for Collectors in the Gulf
The New York collection was assembled through one retailer over many years. In Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman, that relationship runs through seven Patek Philippe boutiques listed on the manufacture’s own site: Riyadh with First Jewelery in Olaya Tower; Dubai Mall and The Galleria on Al Maryah Island in Abu Dhabi with Ahmed Seddiqi; Doha with Al Majed Jewellery at Place Vendôme; Kuwait City with Kuwait Luxury at the Salhiya Complex; Manama with Bahrain Jewellery Center; and Muscat with Al Qurum at the Royal Opera Galleria.
The region already holds the leading result in Sotheby’s own ranking. On 5 December 2025 in Abu Dhabi, during the Precision & Brilliance sale of jewels and watches from a private collection, a set of four Patek Philippe Star Caliber 2000 clock watches in yellow gold, pink gold, white gold and platinum (lot 342, circa 2006) sold for $11.9 million. Sotheby’s places it first in its list of the ten most expensive watches, published on 14 October 2026.
For clients following the 7 December sale from Riyadh, Dubai or Doha, the Original Owner Collection is a lesson in documentation: original certificates, boxes and a continuous ownership history give a watch its place in a catalogue. Our Patek Philippe brand page gathers the manufacture’s collections and news, and our report on the Watch Art Grand Exhibition Milan 2026 follows how Patek Philippe presents its own heritage.
