Design & Mechanics
On the 42mm Classic Fusion Balloon Dog, Koons’s mirrored balloon sculptures translate directly into the watch’s architecture. Every surface is convex, every line pressurised. Hublot’s manufacture re-engineered each component on 5-axis CNC to sustain that illusion of inflated volume across a precision instrument.
Three details carry the concept furthest: a rubber-moulded aluminium crown shaped like an inflation valve, a decorative balloon tail at 10:30, and a Balloon Dog-shaped counterweight on the seconds hand. The HUB1710 automatic movement runs beneath.
Movement & Materials
The MP-14 Origin operates on a different register entirely. At 44mm in polished sapphire crystal and titanium, the case reveals concentric orbital rings in white gold revolving around a central tourbillon beneath a translucent blue-varnished sapphire dome. The HUB9014 movement’s peripheral oscillating weight keeps the display unobstructed, while a 60-hour power reserve underpins daily wear.
Julien Tornare, Hublot CEO, described the dynamic between the two pieces: “The MP-14 Origin sits at the intersection of two parallel visions: one artist deconstructing perception, one manufacture deconstructing matter, both since 1980.”
