The Signature Elements

The architecture of the Heritage Coin is inseparable from its source material. A real Double Eagle coin — a 22-carat, 20-dollar gold piece that circulated as legal tender for more than eighty years — is carefully cut along its edge. One half becomes the dial, protected by a sapphire crystal. The other forms the case back. Between the two, CORUM mounts an ultra-thin movement.

A solid 18-carat gold case middle ring, with the original coin’s knurling faithfully reproduced, completes the construction. Every watch is assembled and finished entirely by hand.

Design and Lineage

Across all 50 creations, the front face is shared: the American eagle in relief, the words “250 Years of Independence,” and the US Mint iconography that has always defined the Coin Watch’s dial language. Two baton hands keep the reading clean and uncluttered.

The reverse is where individuality asserts itself. Each case back has been designed specifically for the state it represents, depicting an emblematic landscape, a regional symbol, or a founding moment. Together the 50 pieces form what CORUM describes as a horological portrait of the United States.

Movement and Materials

The CO082 automatic calibre runs at 4Hz (28,800 vph) and delivers a 42-hour power reserve. Functions are limited to hours and minutes, in keeping with the Coin Watch’s long-standing discipline of keeping the dial free of complication.

The 39mm yellow gold case measures 7.60mm in thickness. The strap is a textured leather-effect vulcanised rubber — a tactile contrast to the precious metal above it. Water resistance is rated to 30 metres.

Heritage and Context

The Coin Watch was introduced in 1964 and has maintained a presence at the highest levels of American public life. Richard Nixon, the 37th President, received one from CORUM. Ronald Reagan appeared on the cover of TIME Magazine wearing one in 1981. Henry Kissinger was among its most distinguished wearers.

CORUM itself was founded in 1955 in La Chaux-de-Fonds. In 2025, following a management buyout led by CEO and Chairman Haso Mehmedovic with the backing of Swiss investors, the Maison returned to Swiss ownership. Its first participation in Watches and Wonders Geneva in April 2026 signalled the brand’s renewed ambition on the international stage.

The Heritage Coin collection is available exclusively at www.corum.ch from 4 July 2026, priced at CHF 46,000 (USD 58,000) per piece.
