Rouge Noir began as an experimental nail colour for the 1994/95 Autumn-Winter Ready-to-Wear show, conceived to dress the nails of models for one night only. The deep, almost black garnet shade caught the runway lights, echoing the secret lining of the 2.55 handbag and transforming a discreet detail into a visible signature.
Within this shade, vibrant magentas energise the depth while soft pinks soften its impact. On the hands of models, actresses and singers, Rouge Noir moved from backstage idea to cult object, known as Vamp in the United States, while remaining a paradox: a red that is almost black, a black that is almost red, sometimes gleaming cherry, sometimes edged with pink.

In 2026, the CHANEL Makeup Creation Studio and Ammy Drammeh, member of the COMETES COLLECTIVE, extend this story into a complete makeup collection. No longer confined to a nail enamel, Rouge Noir now dresses eyes, lips and face, modulating from dark intensity on the eyes to nuanced softness on the lips.
At the heart of this universe lies ROUGE NOIR CONFIDENCE, a generously sized palette that translates the icon into four articulated tones. An electrifying magenta, a pearly rosy white highlighter, a sienna red with pink shimmer and a mauve pink reveal different facets of the original hue while maintaining its tension between boldness and restraint.

To accompany this language of colour, CHANEL introduces Les Pinceaux Rouge Noir, a trio of brushes presented in a limited-edition pouch and dressed in the House’s emblematic shade. N°104, the Touch-Up Face Brush, refines complexion work; N°203, the Eye-Contouring Brush, sculpts definition; and N°204, the Rounded Eyeshadow Brush, diffuses pigment with control.
The eyes become a central focus. Noir Allure mascara, with its signature click, appears in a limited-edition Rouge Noir case, with lashes coated in deep Rouge Noir for a defined gaze. OMBRE ESSENTIELLE brings a duochrome effect with GRIS ROSE, a metallic grey infused with rose, and BRUN ROSE, a satiny mauve brown.
STYLO YEUX WATERPROOF completes the structure of the look: MODERNISTE, a neutral grey, traces discreet architecture, while PERFORMER, an electrifying magenta, adds a vivid accent. Grey shades reference rock influences within the Rouge Noir narrative, while magentas and pinks modulate intensity.

Across the collection, each texture and finish offers a distinct emotion while remaining faithful to the original colour code. Rouge Noir shifts from classic to irreverent depending on how it is placed, inviting combinations that can be understated, precise or dramatically defined.
Why it matters
The Rouge Noir collection shows how a single historic shade can evolve into a complete, nuanced makeup language without losing its identity. By articulating the colour across eyes, lips, face and tools, CHANEL positions Rouge Noir as both an emblem of the House and a modern instrument of self-expression.
For beauty connoisseurs in the GCC, Rouge Noir offers a discreet yet distinctive way to refine a signature look from day to evening. It is a considered option for those who value continuity of style and subtle variation rather than seasonal change.
