Cartier LOVE Unlimited Bracelet: A Flexible New Direction for an Icon

Design & Construction

Aldo Cipullo’s 1969 brief was confrontational by design: a rigid oval bangle, sealed to the wrist with a screwdriver, its visible industrial screws a deliberate rebuke to the ornate vocabulary of post-war fine jewellery. The LOVE bracelet worked precisely because it could not easily be taken off. That was the point. The LOVE Unlimited keeps Cipullo’s graphic language and discards his single greatest constraint.

Two hundred individual gold components, each articulated at its joint, give the bracelet the suppleness of a fine mesh. Up close, the construction reads as a continuous field of linked elements; at a distance, it reads as a LOVE bracelet. The screws run along its length in the same graphic register they have occupied since 1969. What changes is the behaviour of the object on the wrist: it bends, settles, and moves with the wearer rather than holding a fixed oval plane against the skin.

The Clasp and Its Implications

The one-hand clasp is the LOVE Unlimited’s most consequential engineering decision. Hidden within the form of the bracelet itself, it disappears completely when worn. It can be fastened or removed with a single hand and no tools at all, which repositions the entire proposition of the piece. The original bracelet was conceived to be worn permanently; the LOVE Unlimited is conceived to be layered, exchanged, reconfigured.

That reconfigurability is literal. Individual bracelets link to one another, producing a double- or triple-wrap on the wrist, or a choker at the throat, or a belt, or a charm suspended from a bag. Cartier describes the LOVE Unlimited as “a new chapter of the LOVE legacy: one where the cult screw motif meets seamless fluidity.” As a system rather than a fixed object, it earns that framing. Sofia Coppola, Jacob Elordi, and the Campaign

Coppola’s directorial instincts, soft light, quiet interiors, unhurried attention to interior life, read as a natural counterpoint to a bracelet whose predecessor was so declarative. She and Elordi reunited after Priscilla (2023), in which she cast him as Elvis Presley. “It’s always a joy to work with Sofia,” Elordi told Vogue Scandinavia. “After Priscilla, reconnecting felt really natural. There’s an ease between us — we understand each other creatively and have a shared view of the work.”

On the bracelet itself, Elordi was direct: “The Love bracelet has always had something iconic about it — it represents more than just a piece of jewellery. The new Unlimited version adds something unexpected and modern.” Behind-the-scenes photography was captured by Isabella Elordi, the actor’s older sister and a working photographer, adding a familial layer to a campaign already built around the idea of personal connection. Coppola’s own summation is characteristically spare: “It’s a beautiful design, a classic and romantic idea. I love the fact that it’s both sweet and cool.”
