Amouage Elsewhere: The Essences Fragrance Rooted in Sindbad’s Voyage

The Signature Elements

• Amouage Elsewhere is a 100 ml, 30% concentration Essence de Parfum from The Essences collection, created by Master Perfumer Pierre Negrin around the narrative of Sindbad’s voyage, featuring a woody, spicy and ambery structure with a distinctive cappuccino heart accord.
• The composition began life in Muscat as Sindbad, exclusively available in Oman before its global reintroduction in June 2026 under the name Elsewhere.

Design and Presentation

Elsewhere arrives in the traditional Amouage crystal flacon — 100 ml, capped with the Maison’s signature Al Alam palace silhouette — a form that has anchored the House’s visual identity across decades and collections. The bottle communicates its positioning before a single drop is applied: this is the highest tier of the Amouage portfolio, distinct from the standard collection in both vessel weight and overall presentation.

The Nakheel Mall boutique where the launch was held operates under a design concept titled “Openings” — a Najdi-influenced interior language drawn from the traditional windows of Saudi Arabia’s central region. The space frames a visual dialogue between interior warmth and the outside world, which made it a precisely chosen setting for a fragrance whose entire architecture is built on the tension between departure and return.

Composition and Aging Process

Elsewhere is structured in three deliberate movements that follow Sindbad’s own arc: departure, passage into unfamiliar territory, and return. The opening accord is warm and fruit-laden — honey, apricot, mango, cardamom, ginger and tangerine, with quieter facets of grapefruit, pomegranate and pink pepper. The effect is explicitly Middle Eastern in character, spiced and hospitable, a recognisable threshold before the journey begins.

The heart is where Elsewhere separates itself from most luxury fragrances in this category. Black tea introduces a tannic dryness that cuts the opening sweetness; davana, an Indian herb valued in perfumery for its fruity-fermented quality, shifts the register further; and a cappuccino accord — bitter, warm, deeply unusual — places the composition in olfactory territory few Essences de Parfum have occupied. It is the fragrance’s most distinctive passage. The base then draws everything back toward warmth: tonka bean, vanilla, cedarwood, labdanum, cypriol, vetiver and patchouli form a dense, resinous drydown that carries the density of an attar rather than a conventional spray perfume.

What separates The Essences line from the broader Amouage portfolio is the aging ritual applied to each concentration. For Elsewhere, that process spans more than a year: six months of oakwood barrel infusion for the alcohol base, then six months of concentrate infusion with sandalwood chips, then two weeks of maceration. At 30% concentration, the fragrance reveals its structure over hours, with projection and trail closer in behaviour to an oil-based preparation than to a lighter eau de parfum.

Riyadh as the Right Address

Saudi Arabia has become one of Amouage’s most significant regional markets over the past two years, with the Maison opening two dedicated Riyadh boutiques in 2024 and 2025: the first at Solitaire Mall, the second at Nakheel Mall. Choosing Riyadh for the global arrival of Elsewhere was a considered decision. Sindbad is a narrative shared across the Arab world — from Baghdad to Basra to Muscat — and an audience in Riyadh would recognise its cultural heritage without mediation.

Chairman Sayyid Khalid bin Hamad Al Busaidi and Chief Creative Officer Renaud Salmon have both spoken consistently about the Maison’s relationship with the Gulf: Amouage sees itself not as an exporter into the region but as a house whose identity is shaped by it. The Elsewhere celebration at Nakheel Mall, photographed by Sultan Al-Yahyaei, was designed to reflect that position — an intimate gathering rather than a conventional product presentation, with guests introduced to the fragrance in stages that mirrored its three-act composition.
