MARLI New York's Burgundy L23 is a Qatar-exclusive timepiece unveiled at DJWE 2026, with a burgundy alligator strap, mother-of-pearl pyramid dial and 68 diamonds.
The Headline Facts
- Burgundy alligator strap, chosen to reference the colour of Qatar’s national flag, anchors the entire concept of the L23 Al Fardan Exclusive.
- Priced at USD 6,400, the piece is available solely through Al Fardan in Qatar, launched at DJWE 2026 in Doha.
- The 23 mm stainless-steel case holds a natural mother-of-pearl dial carved into MARLI’s signature three-dimensional pyramid tapisserie and framed by 68 brilliant diamonds.
- Three years of research and development, plus a full suite of purpose-built tooling, were required to achieve the pyramid geometry in mother-of-pearl at watchmaking tolerances.
Design & Colour

The burgundy here is chosen precisely, not decoratively. It references the deep maroon-red of the Qatari national flag, giving a 23 mm timepiece a quietly local meaning that only the wearer and those who know the flag’s history will read.
Maral Artinian, Founder and Creative Director of MARLI New York, was direct about the motivation: “Getting these pieces out into the world, into people’s hands, that’s the exciting part.” The Burgundy L23 is her answer to Qatar specifically, presented at the Doha Jewellery and Watches Exhibition between 28 September and 3 October 2026.
The Pyramid Tapisserie Dial
Solid natural mother-of-pearl, rated between 3 and 4 on the Mohs scale, forms the base. MARLI’s workshop carves it into a repeating field of three-dimensional pyramids: sharp edges, consistent depth, precise geometry across the full surface.
As the angle of light shifts, the pyramids catch and release it differently, so the dial’s character changes with the wearer’s movement. Hand heights across the L23 collection have been raised slightly to preserve the sense of depth and avoid obscuring the carved field. The crown, diamond-set and shaped as a miniature pyramid, carries the motif off the dial entirely.
Three Years in Development
Achieving repeating pyramids with crisp, light-catching angles in mother-of-pearl, at dial scale and to watchmaking tolerances, was not straightforward. MARLI states that the brand developed a complete suite of bespoke industrial tooling and spent three years in research and development before the tapisserie technique was viable for production.
