The Story Behind It

The Amels family began building ships in 1918. Over a century later, from the same Dutch province of Zeeland, the yard — now part of the Damen Group — operates one of the most prolific production lines in the global superyacht fleet, with close to 100 Amels vessels currently cruising worldwide.

The Limited Editions concept emerged as a direct answer to the inefficiencies of full-custom construction. Where a bespoke 60-metre build can stretch to five years or more, the Limited Editions model fixes the hull, superstructure, and mechanical package, then opens every owner-facing element to individual specification. The result reached eleven commissions in under seven years — a commercial record at this scale.

Design and Character

Espen Øino’s exterior brief was architectural rather than decorative. The geometric windows — angular glazing running along the main and upper decks — give the series its immediately identifiable profile while providing the structural integrity a transatlantic-capable displacement hull demands. Above, the tri-deck silhouette culminates in a sundeck sheltered beneath a large architectural arch: shade and visual drama delivered in a single structural gesture.

Interior design varies by hull. Winch Design defined the first hull, Come Together, around a “relaxed family home on the water” concept. Harrison Eidsgaard and Espen Øino’s own studio have each shaped successive hulls. Each is distinct in character; each is recognisably an Amels 60.

Spatial Programme and Engineering

Twelve guests are accommodated across six staterooms. The owner’s suite sits in a private position with an unfolding balcony that opens directly to the sea. Guest cabins on the lower deck connect to the beach club, where a 38-square-metre swim platform serves as both sunbathing terrace and launch pad for the yacht’s water-toy complement. A spa and fitness room adjoin at water level. The tender garage, relocated to the foredeck, stores a nine-metre limousine tender — the largest tender accommodation available on any yacht of this size.

The hybrid diesel-electric propulsion system is the engineering centrepiece. At full power, the MTU-sourced system delivers 15.5 knots. Eco-cruising at 14 knots reduces both fuel consumption and emissions. Electric-only mode at up to 7 knots permits operation in the growing number of marine protected areas and harbours that restrict engine noise — an increasingly practical consideration for owners whose cruising programmes include the Mediterranean’s most regulated anchorages.

Market Position and Notable Hulls

Hull 1, Come Together (Winch Design, delivered 2022), sold at an asking price of approximately €59.95 million. Hull 8, Alva, was delivered in March 2026 and is now available for charter. With eleven hulls commissioned and three under construction, Damen Yachting considers the Amels 60 on track for its “Limited Editions Hall of Fame” — the category of designs whose production runs reach double digits and whose reputation compounds with each successive delivery.

The series received a World Superyacht Award in Venice in 2024, recognising its design quality and contribution to sustainable yacht technology.
