A Vision of Eternal Beauty

For Rado, eternal beauty has always meant forms and surfaces that keep their character as time passes. Longevity came before stylistic nuance, and that focus on durability became a catalyst for material innovation, from cases to crystals engineered to resist wear and protect design integrity.

Over the years, the idea of eternal beauty evolved into a dialogue between engineering and design. Technical mastery and bold creativity were treated as equals, guided by the conviction: “If we can imagine it, we can make it. And if we can make it, we will.” Materials are therefore selected not only for performance but for their ability to preserve aesthetic intent over generations.

From DiaStar Original to High-tech Ceramic

The Integral’s story begins with the DiaStar Original of 1962. Its distinctive silhouette and scratch-resistant Hardmetal case positioned Rado as a brand willing to challenge manufacturing limits in pursuit of permanence.

As design became more expressive in the 1960s, new DiaStar models appeared in vibrant Hardmetal shades such as Aubergine and Magic Copper, proving that technical innovation and adventurous aesthetics could progress together. Cermet joined the DiaStar line by 1977, and in 1982 the DiaStar V2200 introduced an edge-to-edge sapphire crystal, reinforcing a mindset of continuous progress.

The Birth of the Integral

By the early 1980s, with original DiaStar patents nearing expiration, Rado sought a material that again pushed boundaries. The answer was high-tech ceramic and a determination to bring ceramic watchmaking to series production.

In 1986, the “DiaStar Anatom” arrived in two colours and two sizes and soon became known as the Integral, establishing a new design language. The campaign line, “The future on your wrist. The wrist of the future,” summed up Rado’s belief in constant innovation anchored in advanced materials.

In 1988, the final name “Integral” naturally replaced the original designation. It described the watch’s architecture: a smooth flow from case to bracelet, unified by a rounded edge-to-edge sapphire crystal bonded directly to the case via a patented Rado process. Case, bracelet and curved crystal formed a single whole, symbolising durable, sensorial beauty.

Four Decades of a Design Icon

The Integral’s silhouette quickly set a benchmark, with its purity of line appealing to successive generations. When design is this coherent and paired with materials engineered to preserve their appearance, the watch becomes a lasting statement on the wrist.

Behind this apparent ease lies intensive material research. Rado’s specialists start with fine ceramic powder, carrier agents and high-precision moulds; through sintering, baking and diamond-tool finishing, they create cases and bracelet elements that feel exceptionally comfortable yet are built to retain their brilliance.

For the 2026 anniversary model, Rado’s designers and materials engineers worked together to keep the essential character of the 1986 Integral intact. Updates respond only to current production methods and materials, so the latest Integral reads as a continuation of the original idea rather than a reinterpretation.
