The Story Behind It

The project originated as a straightforward brief — a meteorite dial on the Maestro — but CEO Federico Ziviani redirected the design team toward something more specific: capturing a precise instant rather than simply displaying an unusual material. The result is a dial conceived as a freeze-frame of cosmic impact.

Designer Octavio Garcia, who previously served as Creative Director at Audemars Piguet and met Gérald Genta during the Royal Oak 40th anniversary, devised a dual-layer construction. A thin slab of meteorite floats above an aluminium baseplate; radial apertures pierce through to expose the charged colour beneath, evoking shockwaves radiating from a point of collision. The Roman numerals and indices appear deliberately displaced, as though pushed aside by the force of impact.

The Muonionalusta meteorite fell in northern Sweden; current estimates place its age at over 4.5 billion years, predating the formation of the Earth’s crust. Its terrestrial supply is finite and considerably scarcer than gold or diamonds.
