ID GENÈVE

ID Genève Watches was founded in Geneva in December 2020 on a single question: whether a Swiss mechanical watch can be made without extracting new raw material. The answer took the form of watches cased in steel recovered from Swiss watch-industry waste, with straps and components drawn from reclaimed and bio-sourced materials. The brand treats circularity as an engineering constraint rather than a marketing position.

Steel With a Previous Life

The Circular collection is built from stainless steel reclaimed from production offcuts and machining waste generated by the watch industry itself, then re-melted in Switzerland — in one series, in a solar furnace that concentrates sunlight through mirrors, cutting the carbon cost of the material by a large multiple. Cases carry the visual irregularities recycled alloy produces, which the brand presents as evidence rather than defect.

A Test Case for the Industry

ID Genève has attracted attention far beyond its production volume, in part because it has attempted to document the environmental cost of each component rather than simply assert it. Its work has drawn outside investment and prompted wider debate about whether circular sourcing can scale within Swiss watchmaking. For a young independent, that argument has proved as significant as the watches.
