A New Chapter for the Original Field Watch

Hamilton’s Khaki Field collection is rooted in practical, military-inspired design, and the Khaki Field Power Reserve Mechanical 40mm continues that story with a new on-dial power reserve indicator. For the first time in the line, remaining energy is shown directly on the dial while preserving the watch’s no-nonsense character.

The watch keeps the familiar 40mm stainless-steel case, finished with sandblasting for a non-reflective, tool-watch appearance. Proportions, dial layout and legibility echo historic soldiers’ watches, yet the integration of the complication gives this reference a contemporary technical focus.

Dial Design and Power Visualization

The defining element is the power reserve display at 9 o’clock, highlighted by a red scale marked “F” for full and “E” for empty. Its straightforward graphics allow the wearer to read remaining mainspring tension at a glance.

Dials are offered in black or white, both using the Khaki Field aesthetic with Old Radium-tone Super-LumiNova® on hands and indexes. The wording “power reserve 80 hours” makes the feature explicit, underlining that the complication is there to support function rather than decoration.

Historically, power reserve indicators were critical on marine chronometers so navigators could trust their timekeeping. That same principle is adapted here for a wrist-worn field watch where clarity under pressure remains a priority.

The Exclusive H-23 Mechanical Movement

Inside the Khaki Field Power Reserve Mechanical is the hand-wound H-23 calibre, developed by ETA exclusively for Hamilton. It combines an 80-hour power reserve with a dedicated mechanism that translates barrel state directly to the dial indication.

The display is driven by a differential whose plates can shift under strong shocks, potentially desynchronising the hand from the mainspring. To counter this, Hamilton uses a slipping spring inside the barrel so the system can resynchronise itself during winding and remain accurate over time.

This approach keeps the indication aligned with actual stored energy and avoids a hard stop at full wind, improving protection against overwinding and making daily winding smoother. A Nivachron™ balance spring adds resistance to magnetic fields, supporting reliability in varied environments.

Straps, Bracelet and Wearability

The Khaki Field Power Reserve Mechanical is delivered either on a three-row stainless-steel bracelet with butterfly clasp and EasyClick system, or on a green NATO textile strap with brown leather loops and pin buckle. Both underline the field-watch character while covering dressier and more utilitarian settings.

With a 20mm lug width, the case works well with a wide range of alternative straps, encouraging owners to tailor the watch without complicating its core identity. A sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, 10 bar (100m) water resistance and a height of 11.95mm round out a specification aimed at all-terrain wear while still fitting comfortably under a cuff.

Why It Matters

For enthusiasts in the GCC, the Khaki Field Power Reserve Mechanical brings a useful on-dial 80-hour power reserve to a trusted field-watch platform. The hand-wound H-23 movement, Nivachron™ balance spring and 10 bar water resistance make it a capable mechanical companion for travel, outdoor use and daily wear in demanding climates.

With its sandblasted steel case, clear dial options and choice of bracelet or NATO strap, it remains a focused instrument for collectors who value purposeful engineering and clear information on the wrist.
