Design & Aesthetics

The 40mm 18K rose gold case of the LM101 EVO NYC sets an immediate visual contrast against the black sunray-brushed PVD dial plate beneath it. The sunray brushing catches light in radial lines that shift with each movement of the wrist, while the black ground pulls the eye directly upward to the floating subdials and the oversized balance wheel suspended above them. Rose gold had never appeared on an LM101 EVO before this edition, and the warmth of the metal against the dark plate produces a chromatic tension that earlier LM101 variants in lighter finishes did not offer.

The caseback carries an engraved inscription — “MB&F NYC” — a discreet acknowledgement of the occasion. Sapphire crystals on both the front and back give the owner an unobstructed view of the architecture from either side. The integrated black rubber strap closes with a rose gold folding buckle, maintaining the tonal coherence of the piece from lug to clasp.

Movement & Finishing

The hand-wound LM101 EVO calibre at the centre of the NYC Edition comprises 233 components and 23 jewels. Three elements organise the movement’s three-dimensional layout: the flying balance wheel, the power reserve indication, and the time display. The oversized 14mm balance wheel, fitted with four traditional regulating screws and a Straumann double hairspring, floats above the movement on a mirror-polished twin-arched bridge. Frequency sits at 18,000 vph (2.5 Hz), and the power reserve extends to 60 hours.

The finishing of every surface was developed in collaboration with Kari Voutilainen, the Finnish-born Swiss-based master watchmaker. His contribution is visible in polished bevels, Geneva waves, hand-made engravings, and internal angles finished to a standard that holds under scrutiny from every angle. MB&F designates Voutilainen a “Friend” — the term the brand reserves for the master craftspeople and engineers who co-create under the Maximilian Büsser & Friends model.

Heritage & Lineage

The original Legacy Machine 101, launched in 2014, marked a singular inflection point: it was the first calibre entirely developed by MB&F’s in-house engineering team. Before it, the brand’s movements relied on external movement bases. With the LM101, MB&F became, for the first time, a fully self-contained manufacture. Choosing this specific reference to mark the New York Lounge opening is deliberate — the LM101 is where the in-house chapter began, and the NYC Edition extends that founding statement into a new geography.

The EVO variant arrived in 2025 to mark MB&F’s 20th anniversary, answering collector requests for a more capable version of the model. Beyond the 60-hour power reserve, the EVO introduced a screw-down crown, improved water resistance, and a Super-LumiNova-enhanced display. The LM Sequential Flyback EVO follows a parallel trajectory within the same family, demonstrating how MB&F has used the EVO designation as a consistent frame for functional maturation across its Legacy Machine line.

Availability & Edition Details

The MB&F Lounge New York occupies Suite 506 on the fifth floor of the Fuller Building — a 1929 Art Deco landmark designed by Walker & Gillette at 595 Madison Avenue, on the corner of 57th Street. The space is modelled on MB&F’s M.A.D. Galleries in Geneva and Dubai: kinetic art, mechanical curiosities, and MB&F’s watches coexist in an environment designed for considered discovery rather than transactional interaction. The Lounge operates Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, by appointment only.

After more than two decades of working through American retail partners, this space is MB&F’s first dedicated presence of its own in the United States. The 25 pieces of the NYC Edition are available exclusively there, at USD 105,000 (CHF 77,000). No other channel carries this edition.
