A Gladiator Reimagined for the Wrist
The new generation of the Maghnam Mohareb is conceived as armour for the wrist, a fighter archetype rooted in Arab heritage and executed with Swiss horological precision. Its name, from the Arabic word for “fighter” or “gladiator,” reflects independent watchmaker and engineer Sohaib Maghnam’s aim to create a sculptural object rather than a conventional flat dial.
Presented in Argent Crimson and Deep Blue, the Mohareb centres on a helmet-like core framed by extensions that recall blades or plates, with alternating polished and sandblasted surfaces and engraved patterns that emphasise light and shadow.
Modular Armour: Blades, Halo and Wings
The Mohareb’s modular construction separates the central case from its surrounding armour, so the movement and display sit within a core that receives interchangeable Blades, Halo and Wings via a locking system in the caseback. An engraved motif at the top of the case acts as a visual signature and belongs to what Maghnam identifies as Form-4: Mohareb.
- Blades adds two polished steel blades flanking a sandblasted central structure with engraved motifs.
- Halo reframes the watch within a round outline while preserving the architectural core.
- Wings stretches the profile into an elongated form that heightens the sense of motion on the wrist.

A Bi-Retrograde Architecture of Time
The Mohareb’s bi-retrograde display is driven by the manual-winding MCR01-B calibre, built on the Swiss SW210 and enhanced with a proprietary retrograde module by Sohaib Maghnam. Time is presented through a 120-degree retrograde hour arc on the front of the watch and a vertical linear minute counter rising toward the top of the case.
The retrograde hours travel across their scale before snapping back to the starting point, while the ascending minutes echo the helmet-inspired geometry and keep the dial visually active. A sapphire crystal protects the display and reveals the depth of the movement, and the calibre delivers a 42-hour power reserve.

Expressive Form, Everyday Proportions
Although visually bold, the Mohareb is dimensioned for comfort, with a central case of 39.5 mm in diameter and a profile that tapers toward the edges, so it sits closer to a contemporary dress watch than to a typical experimental piece.
The case is crafted from 904L stainless steel for resistance to corrosion, with thin wall sections achieved via CNC-machining to realise the sculptural profile without sacrificing robustness. This contributes to a total weight of about 43.5 grams and water resistance of 1 ATM, around 10 metres.
A Middle Eastern Perspective on Independent Watchmaking
The Mohareb sits within a creative universe that Maghnam is building around Arab heritage and Swiss craft, where models such as Makina, Madar, Mohareb and Noor carry Arabic names that anchor their designs in the culture that inspires them.
For Palestinian-Jordanian founder Sohaib Maghnam, now based in Doha and serving as CEO and Creative Director of Beda’a Watches, this fusion is a statement about Middle Eastern voices in contemporary horology. Recognition at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève in 2025 for the Beda’a Eclipse 1 strengthens that trajectory and frames the Mohareb as a confident independent design.
Why It Matters
For collectors in the GCC, the Maghnam Mohareb unites Arab cultural narrative, Swiss mechanical craft and modular design in a single, personal object. Its Doha-based origins and the designer’s regional roots give it particular resonance for those seeking independent watchmaking with an authentic Middle Eastern voice.
