At Geneva Watch Days, Hautlence presents the Vagabonde Tourbillon Series 4 and Series 5, two references that refine the maison’s take on how time can be read and staged. Both transpose the wandering hours display into Hautlence’s rectangular architecture, anchored by a flying tourbillon at six o’clock.

The hour satellites travel over a central minute disc, while the tourbillon turns once per minute in an open bar-shaped carriage, creating a constantly shifting three-dimensional scene on the wrist.

The Hautlence spirit, in midnight blue

Since 2004, Hautlence has focused on alternative time displays and sculptural case architecture. The Vagabonde Tourbillon Series 4 and 5 extend this philosophy, using the rectangular case as a stage for the wandering hours, minutes and regulating organ.

Both models feature a satin-finished and polished steel case with deep midnight blue PVD coating, measuring 43.0 x 50.8 x 12.2 mm (10.9 mm without the sapphire crystal). The notched crown bears an engraved Hautlence logo, while an extra-hard bevelled sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment protects the dial. A sapphire caseback engraved “Hautlence”, “10 ATM” and “Suisse” reveals the automatic calibre and confirms 10 ATM water resistance suitable for daily wear.

Architectural dials: cubic vs. organic

The distinction between Series 4 and Series 5 is strongest on the dial. On the Vagabonde Tourbillon Series 4 (reference AD30-ST02), a blue PVD-coated brass base dial forms a 3D-printed cubic structure, with sandblasted lower levels and polished upper surfaces for a sharp architectural relief.

The Vagabonde Tourbillon Series 5 (reference AD30-ST03) offers a more fluid approach. Its brass base dial carries a 3D-printed organic structure with blue PVD coating, the hollows filled with white Super-LumiNova® that glows in low light. Both models share a rhodium-plated brass intermediate dial with black PVD coating and a sapphire upper dial, with minute numerals and rings in Globolight® applied for legibility and depth.

Perpetual kinetics: the D30 calibre

Both Series 4 and Series 5 are powered by the D30 self-winding mechanical movement, visible through the sapphire back. This automatic calibre uses a bidirectional pawl winding mechanism to deliver a minimum power reserve of 72 hours and operates at 21,600 vibrations per hour.

Comprising 217 components and 39 jewels, it integrates a one-minute flying tourbillon with double hairspring produced in-house by Precision Engineering AG, Hautlence’s sister company. The movement drives the wandering hours and minutes display in sync with the tourbillon’s motion, while a white rubber strap with steel buckle in midnight blue PVD completes the sport-luxe character.

An artistic echo at Geneva Watch Days

To frame the launch, Hautlence collaborates with Gallery René Schmitt to present two installations by contemporary artist Via Lewandowsky in its Beau-Rivage suite. The works question how perception can be reframed and what meaning is assigned to passing hours, mirroring Hautlence’s view that time is inseparable from context.

Why it matters

The Vagabonde Tourbillon Series 4 and 5 crystallise Hautlence’s evolution as an independent, combining architectural design, alternative time displays and in-house regulating expertise. For collectors in the GCC seeking contemporary rectangular tourbillon watches beyond the familiar round icons, these limited editions offer a focused vision of modern haute horlogerie.
