GUERLAIN
Guerlain was founded in Paris in 1828 by Pierre-François-Pascal Guerlain, perfumer, chemist and inventor, who opened his first boutique at 42, rue de Rivoli. Among the oldest perfume houses in the world, it has been part of the LVMH group since 1994 and welcomes its visitors at its flagship, 68, avenue des Champs-Élysées.
Heritage
In 1853 the founder created Eau de Cologne Impériale for the marriage of Napoleon III and Empress Eugénie, and became Official Perfumer to His Majesty. Five successive generations of Guerlain perfumers have since held the creative reins, from Aimé, author of Jicky in 1889, and Jacques to Jean-Paul Guerlain and, since 2008, Thierry Wasser. The house still makes its creations in France, in its own workshops, and was recognised as a Living Heritage Company in 2005.
Collections
Shalimar, composed by Jacques Guerlain in 1925 and presented in a Baccarat crystal bottle, remains the emblem of the house, alongside L’Heure Bleue, Mitsouko, Vétiver, Habit Rouge and La Petite Robe Noire. Make-up such as Météorites and Terracotta and the Abeille Royale skincare line complete the offer, while the bee, a lasting source of inspiration, now leads a bee protection programme carried out with UNESCO.
