The Shape of It

• Priced at CHF 830 with nylon strap and CHF 970 with leather and carbon clasp, the AirField is available in four dial colours — Desert Sand, Horizon Blue, Jet Black, and Tarmac Grey — with pre-orders opening 24 September 2026 and shipping expected late October 2026.
• The 40 mm grade 2 titanium case weighs 54 grams in total and is hardened to approximately 900 Vickers, close to five times the surface hardness of standard stainless steel.
• The Sellita SW200-2 Power+ calibre delivers 65 hours of power reserve, up from 41 hours in the standard movement.
• A sloped inner bezel, hand-filled relief Arabic numerals, and an aircraft-engine engraving on the solid caseback carry the aviation theme beyond the dial.

Design & Mechanics

Broad sword-shaped hour and minute hands, relief Arabic numerals filled by hand with Super-LumiNova BGW9 Grade A, and a triangle-and-two-dot marker at 12 o’clock define the AirField’s cockpit-referencing dial. The layout owes nothing to decorative watchmaking; every element addresses immediate legibility at a glance. On Desert Sand, the luminous compound is darkened for daytime contrast rather than the standard blue-white glow used on the remaining three references.

A sloped inner bezel draws the eye inward and adds perceived depth without increasing case height. At 6 o’clock, Formex’s bevelled date window angles the disc toward the viewer, eliminating the shadow that a flat surround would cast across the numeral. Each date disc is colour-matched to its dial variant.

Movement & Materials

The Sellita SW200-2 Power+ runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour across 26 jewels. Formex extended the power reserve from 41 to 65 hours, meaning the watch can sit unworn for over two days and be picked up without a reset. For a piece designed to move between activities and time zones, that figure has genuine practical weight.

At 10.5 mm tall and 54 grams total, the case wears closer to a fabric-strap sports watch than a conventional steel pilot reference. The screwed crown and 150-metre water resistance extend the watch’s range well beyond its aviation references. The solid caseback carries an engraving of a radial aircraft engine and propeller — a considered detail that the brand describes as a mechanical reference to the era when aviation and watchmaking grew increasingly intertwined.

Availability & Edition Details

Raphael Granito, CEO of Formex Watch SA, framed the AirField’s brief plainly: “They need to be reliable, easy to read, and comfortable enough that you almost forget you’re wearing them.” Two strap configurations support that position. The nylon Velcro options — available in black, blue, khaki, and sand — add minimal weight and suit warmer climates. The Bolgheri leather straps pair with Formex’s patented carbon fibre deployant clasp, which allows 7 mm of micro-adjustment through the day without removing the watch.
