HERVÉ SCHLÜCHTER
Hervé Schlüchter spent most of his career inside the industry before putting his own name on a dial. Raised in the Franches-Montagnes and long associated with Bovet, where he came to manage the Tramelan manufacture, he established his own ateliers in Bienne and presented a first watch built around a personal idea rather than a commercial brief. His work is deliberately slow and produced in very small numbers.
L’Essentiel and the Tree of Life
Schlüchter’s debut, L’Essentiel, is a time-only regulator with a day-and-night indication and a hand-finished movement visible through the caseback. It is conceived as the first chapter of a trilogy titled Tree of Life, structured around themes of generational time and transmission. The concept came directly from a period of personal upheaval, and the watch is presented as an argument rather than a product.
Finishing Learned at the Source
Schlüchter trained as a watchmaker and repairer, and refined his hand-finishing alongside Philippe Dufour, the reference point for the discipline. That grounding shows in the movement’s anglage and surface work, executed to a level that places him among the small group of Swiss independents judged primarily on craft. Output remains a handful of pieces a year.
