LONGINES - The winners of the 2018 “Roland-Garros Junior Wild-Card Competition by Longines”

The Roland-Garros adventure continues for Ana Paula Melilo and Mateo Reyes as the Brazilian players gained today a direct access to the French Open Junior’s tournament at Roland Garros. The winners of the 2018 “Roland-Garros Junior Wild-Card Competition by Longines” have indeed been awarded wild-cards for the Roland-Garros junior draw, which will be held in Paris from 3rd June to 9th June 2018. On this occasion, they were presented with a model from the Conquest Roland Garros collection, specially designed to celebrate the prestigious clay court Paris tournament.

As the Title Partner of the “Roland-Garros Junior Wild-Card Competition by Longines”, the Swiss watch brand Longines, together with the French Federation of Tennis, officially awarded a wild-card entry to the winners of this unique international competition. On May 26, 2018, on one of Roland-Garros’ courts, Ana Paula Melilo and Mateo Reyes, both from Brazil, respectively defeated China’s Cao Xue (7-6, 6-2) and India’s Shrivalli Bhamidipaty (7-5, 6-4) and India’s Siddhant Banthia (6-3, 6-3) and China’s Zhou Xinmu (6-4, 6-2). As a reward for their great performance, the winners were presented with elegant Conquest Roland Garros timepieces, created by the Swiss watch brand as a tribute to the prestigious Parisian tournament.

For this 2018 edition, the competition was held in three countries: Brazil, China and India. The junior players qualified on clay-court in their home countries earlier this year, in matches run under the exact same conditions as for the Roland-Garros tournament. The qualifications took place from 12th to 15th April in Belo Horizonte, Brazil (at the Pampulha Iate Clube), from 23rd to 26th April in Nanchang, China (at the Zhongshang Tennis Club), and from 25th to 27th April in Delhi, India (at the Delhi Lawn Tennis Association).
However, the competition is not finished yet for the winners. Indeed, they will now have access to the French Open Junior’s tournament, which will be held in Roland-Garros from 3rd June to 9th June 2018.

Longines looks for tomorrow’s champions
It has always been important for the Swiss watch brand to support and organize competitions that promote sporting activities among young people, along with the values of fair play, respect, integrity and enjoyment. Longines has been the Official Partner and Timekeeper of Roland-Garros since 2007, and the watchmaking brand is organizing this week the ninth edition of the Longines Future Tennis Aces tournament, which will take place under the magnificent Eiffel Tower.
This competition will also take a new dimension as the event will welcome, for the second time since its inception, twenty girls and twenty boys, each of them representing twenty different countries: Australia, Austria, China, France, Germany, Honk Kong, India, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Poland, Russia, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, United-Kingdom, USA. The final will take place on June 2nd, in presence of event’s mentors Alex Corretja and Arantxa Sanchez, who will take part in an exhibition match with the finalists, together with Longines Ambassadors of Elegance Stefanie Graf and Andre Agassi.
