Baselworld 2018 – After the success of the One & Two Openworked last year, which introduced the uplifted Piccadilly case and Speake-Marin in-house SMA01 movement, Speake-Marin launches in 2018 the new generation of One & Two with closed dial: Academic, SMA03 Calibre, a casual chic model.
SMA03, NEW IN-HOUSE MOVEMENT
Since 2014, Speake-Marin has initiated a movement strategy to fully develop and assemble in-house movements within its atelier in Neuchatel area, Switzerland. This new strategy gave birth to the “SMA” collection, which includes Openworked, closed dials and Haute Horlogerie movements. Speake-Marin has focused in a first time its efforts on Haute Horlogerie 3 Hz movements (Minute Repeater and Double Tourbillon).
In a second time, Speake-Marin has developed Hour Minutes Seconds 4Hz movements, which were featured in the new One&Two design as an Openworked movement named SMA01. This movement has the particularity to have the small seconds counter at 1:30 and an integrated micro-rotor. The new Calibre SMA03 is part of the SMA movement family and introduces the first closed dial with small seconds at 1:30.
ACADEMIC: A CASUAL CHIC TIMEPIECE
One& Two Academic is the first Speake-Marin casual chic timepiece. Modern design and fashionable colors for this watch, which will suit gentlemen with casual look.
The small seconds at 1:30 meets the Speake-Marin objective to twist the watchmaking codes: Speake-Marin is indeed the only watchmaker who positions the small seconds there. It is actually a real constraint in terms of movement development since the small seconds at 1:30 has to go through the time setting module.
More generally speaking, the One & Two collection explores the multi-dimensions in terms of dial and movements. With the Academic dial, Speake-Marin explores the multi-layer levels that plunge us into the Speake-Marin dial. The perspective is given thanks to an optic effect: the finish is polished in the middle while matt in the background. The small seconds counter is like suspended in the air and demonstrates the watch chronometry. Finally, the logotype at 7 o’clock echoes the small seconds counter and gives some symmetry and balance to the dial.
Four Roman numerals, a clear silver minute index and heart-shaped hands sign these Speake-Marin new creations.
First colors launched were metallic blue and slate gray. The last dial to be launched is slivery white.
